Our award-winning farm shop and café are just up the lane
Low Sizergh Barn farm shop first opened in the farm’s characterful 17th century barn in 1991 and has since attracted many accolades, including taste awards for the farm’s own produce, and multiple award wins for the shop and the café.
The farm shop shelves reflect our passion for farming, food and the countryside and offer you the chance to do your grocery shopping the local way, pick up some treats, or grab something tasty to take out.
Enjoy cheeses and ice cream made from the farm’s organic milk, fruit and honey from our orchards, own made preserves and ready meals, home baking, deli takeaways, and local and speciality foods.
Much of the local produce we have in the shop can’t be found anywhere else. Cumbria has a fantastic array of food, some with special status like Cumberland Sausage, Lyth Valley Damsons, Herdwick lamb and Morecambe Bay Shrimps.
You can also taste the herd’s raw milk, which is dispensed from a vending machine in front of the farm shop and just yards from the milking parlour. It’s an outstanding whole food: creamy, rich, nutritious and delicious.
Crop for the shop
Look out for our crop for the shop stickers in the farm shop. The scheme links us up with a community of local growers who exchange their surplus fruit, veg, herbs and flowers for a voucher.
We use the glut in the kitchens, serving crop for the shop specials or creating delicious preserves and ready meals, as well as selling the fresh produce in the farm shop.
It’s a lovely way to minimise food waste, keep food miles low and celebrate the huge selection of local crops making their journey from field, garden or allotment to fork.
The café looks down onto the milking parlour and if you want to see the cows miked while enjoying a cuppa and a bite to eat, come between 3.30pm and 5pm daily.
Our menu includes the popular Farmer’s breakfast, which is now available all day, delicious cakes and slices, daily specials, light lunches, and afternoon teas as well as a good selection of drinks.
Hot chocolates or ice cream sundaes are often used as rewards for little legs that have made their way around our free farm trail.
Craft and gift galleries
Discover a cracking collection of arts, crafts, homewares, gifts and toys, all beautifully displayed. The route up to the café even includes a tempting choice of clothing and accessories by small and ethical fashion labels.
Downstairs in the shippon, on the lower ground floor, the shop displays are split into stalls, where the cows were originally housed.
Warm days and holidays are marked by the opening of the shed in front of the farm shop, which serves up ice creams made from our cows’ milk, delicious drinks (including coffees, teas and smoothies), and a selection from the café menu.
Tables and chairs in front of the farm shop are the perfect spot to relax with your food, drink and four-legged friends.
